Pain Management Procedures Performed

OFFICE PROCEDURES

  • Epidural Steroid Injections-Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and caudal: For patient convenience, these injections can be safely performed in our office or at a surgery center for those requiring I.V. sedation.
  • Intramuscular and Trigger Point Injections: Injections of local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication into painful areas (trigger points) performed in the office.
  • Sacroiliac Joint Injections: Local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication (steroid) performed in the office or utilizing x-ray guidance. Sacroiliac or “SI”joints connect at the bones of the hip and the sacrum and are a common source of low back, buttock and hip pain.
  • Botox Injections: An office procedure indicated for long-term relief of pain associated with muscular spasms of the neck and back.
  • Cryotherapy: Utilizes a “very cold” probe, which disrupts the transmission of pain signals without destroying nervous tissue.
  • Intrathecal Pump Refills and Maintenance

Procedures performed using fluoroscopic guidance:

  • Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injections/Selective Nerve Root Blocks: Selective injections of local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory or steroid medication performed using x-ray guidance for added safety and accuracy.
  • Facet Joint Injections- Cervical, thoracic and lumbar: Therapeutic injections of local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication designed to decrease pain and inflammation caused by arthritis of the spinal facet joints.
  • Discography: A diagnostic procedure to determine degree of disc disruption and possible benefit of disc decompression and/or surgical intervention.
  • Percutaneous Disc Decompression: A minimally invasive procedure that removes disc material to relieve pain caused by herniated discs.
  • IDET (Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy): A minimally invasive treatment for the treatment of specific discogenic back pain that employs heat therapy to decrease disc disruption and increase disc stability. (Further info on IDET)
  • Radiofrequency Neurolysis/Rhizotomies/Percutaneous Denervation: Controlled thermal destruction of sensory nerves that relieves pain caused by painful spinal joints.
  • Sympathetic Ganglion Blockade: A diagnostic and possible therapeutic interruption of autonomic nervous activity, which is useful in the treatment of sympathetic, mediated pain.
  • Spinal Cord/Dorsal Column Stimulator Implants: An internal electrical device that decreases the perception of pain.
  • Intrathecal Infusion Pump Implants: A device that delivers various medications to the spinal cord for pain relief.
  • Lysis of Adhesions: Chemical relaxation of painful scar tissue caused by epidural spinal adhesions.
